Head of Government & Policy 


Melbourne Airport is looking for a Head of Government & Policy to drive the Airport's relationships and policy-making agenda by leading, developing, and implementing strategies to engage government, business and industry stakeholders.

 
Reporting to the Executive Public Affairs, the successful candidate will lead APAC's strategic positioning to protect and promote APAC's reputation. They will lead the business in consistent, effective and sustainable stakeholder engagement practices and work with government and industry to inform influence policy across the aviation and tourism sectors.
 
This individual will monitor the regulatory, political and commercial environment in which APAC operates to identify and actively manage emerging policy issues and areas of risk and opportunity. They will also lead the development of policy-making and submissions on all relevant government inquiries, proposals and reforms impacting APAC's operations and strategic direction.
 
The ability to engage and speak externally on major issues and a candidate who can understand work effectively with diverse stakeholders will be highly regarded. You have strong commercial acumen and experience working in a complex regulatory environment. In this role, you will work with business units to develop stakeholder responses and strategies on issues /projects and provide strategic policy, stakeholder engagement advice and support.
 
This role will establish and maintain strong relationships with State, Federal and Local government; Opposition; and senior government executives and will proactively engage with regulatory bodies. The successful candidate will undertake research to inform constructive input to policy discussion with all levels of government.
 
Working closely with the Planning & Development team, the successful candidate will drive the preparation of policies, action plans and representation to State Government and other key stakeholders to ensure the safeguarding of Melbourne Airport's 24/7 operations.
 
Excellent networking and business partnering skills with proven ability to influence cross-functional and external stakeholders will make you successful in this position. Flexible thinking and a collaborative approach will be suitable for this position.
 
Tertiary qualification in public policy, economics/commerce or communications/PR along with a minimum of 7 years' experience working in a role with a strong government, regulatory, economics or policy focus environment is essential.
