Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position within the Department of Radiology, Central Coast Local Health District CCLHD. 

The Postgraduate Fellow position is available for 12 months and will commence 1 July 2024 at 1.0 FTE.  Applicants should be a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists and / or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award.

Central Coast is approximately 40 minutes north of the upper north shore of Sydney and is a scenic ocean side place comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, which are collectively expected to grow from the current approximate 350,000 to 450,000 population before 2030. The Local Health District and the Medical Imaging department has strong connections with the University of Newcastle.

CCLHD has three MRI scanners – one 3T and two 1.5T. Approximately 30-35 MRIs are done everyday during the week and about 10-12 MRIs on Saturday and Sunday. These include inpatients, outpatients and emergencies. The one year fellowship will enable you to hone your skills and acquire competence and confidence in MRI reporting across body regions. There is a fair spread of Neuro, MSK, Body and pelvic imaging. Cardiac MRI is also routinely performed. There is significant consultant expertise in the above body regions (total 14 FTE consultants) to learn from. The role involves closely working with the team including tailoring scan protocols, teaching Radiology registrars (16 accredited and 1 unaccredited trainee) and medical students, participating in MDTs, interaction with referral teams and learning from in house expertise. There is significant scope for research. There is no specific on-call requirement. The department also has 5 CT scanners, an Angio lab, Fluoroscopy, SPECT-CT, OPG, Tomosynthesis and a DEXA scanner along with ultrasound and Digital Radiography systems.  

The department has a positive cohesive culture with an atmosphere conducive to learning and training. The referring craft groups are very supportive.

  1. Medical Practitioner registered or able to be registered in Australia, inclusive of an unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number.
  2. Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists and / or other equivalent specialist recognition. 
  3. Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Radiology.
  4. Ability to work constructively and effectively in a Multidisciplinary team environment, demonstrating excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
