Trust and Foundation Officer

  • Ongoing full-time (38 hours per week)
  • Taronga Conservation Society Australia Salaried Employees Award, Clerk Grade 6 (Base salary $87,225, plus superannuation and leave loading, total package $96,681.47)

About the role…

This position reports to our Major Gifts Manager and is responsible for developing and writing proposals to trusts, foundations, government and other grant-making organisations.  As you generate funding for Taronga, you will persuasively communicate our vision.  

Key Accountabilities

  • The Trust and Foundation officer works closely with the major gifts team in the delivery of fundraising activity to achieve annual income target of $6.7m in 2017/18 financial year and $39million target over 10 years.
  • Secure multi-year major income from national and international Trusts and Foundations to deliver agreed income by allying for a minimum of 3 grants per month that tie into Taronga’s aims/objectives and can be utilised for existing or future projects.
  • Develop a pipeline of existing and prospective Trust and Foundations and solicitations plans for your portfolio of prospects.
  • Adhere strictly to grant and reporting timelines, allowing appropriate time to liaise with campaign, scientific and management staff.
  • Collaborate with scientific and executive team members to ensure that grants and funding is properly targeted and in line with budgets and campaign outcomes.
  • Represent Taronga externally including building relationships and manage the Taronga Foundations interface with external Trusts and Foundations.
  • Identify and develop new prospective Trusts and Foundations on an ongoing basis reviewing and refreshing the trust band foundation pipeline annually.
  • Create a strategic plan for Trusts and Foundations and deliver agreed income target.

About you…

  • Excellent writing, analytical, and research skills;
  • Capacity to synthesise information and communicate in a compelling but succinct form;
  • Computer literacy, including familiarity with Strategic Grants, ThankQ and/or similar fundraising databases that locate biographical, financial, and philanthropic information;
  • Solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants;
  • Experience providing excellent data management and income maintenance for funders;
  • Bachelor’s degree and experience as a writer.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain a current paid NSW Working with Children Check at own expense.
