The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Scientist, Viticulture to be part of our South Australian Research and Development Institute (SARDI) Division within PIRSA. The role reports to the Program Leader, Water Resources, Viticulture and Irrigated Crops.

The Principal Scientist, Viticulture leads the Viticulture Sub-program and undertakes research into the management of grapevines with respect to seasonal and climate variability. The Principal Scientist, Viticulture ensures the timely delivery of high quality research outcomes and support to research colleagues, government and industry and is responsible for the sub-program’s science direction and excellence to enhance SARDI’s national and international reputation as a key research provider for viticulture. The incumbent utilises exceptional scientific skills and experience to initiate a portfolio of significant value that support state, PIRSA and SARDI initiatives and priorities. The Principal Scientist, Viticulture will manage and conduct applied Research and Development (R&D) in viticulture and lead science and delivery under the SARDI-Wine Australia Strategic Research Agreement. The position will be the leading spokesperson on SARDI’s grape and wine research and liaise with key industry and state government stakeholders. The successful applicant must have a strong national and international profile in applied grape and wine research and provide leadership and mentoring to viticulture staff and students within the Sub-Program.

This is a contract / term position up to 31/12/2022. Possession of a current driver’s licence and a willingness to drive is required. Out of hours work may be required including interstate and overseas travel.
