Forensic Accountant - State Crime Command 

To provide service delivery in the Forensic Accounting field for NSW Police Force and other key stakeholders. Provide forensic accounting support to front-line Police and other operational areas.

Key accountabilities

  • use sound knowledge and understanding of business information/financial reporting systems, accounting/auditing standards/procedures, evidence gathering/investigative techniques and litigation processes/procedures and adhere to standards set out in APES 215 Forensic Accounting Services when providing forensic accounting services to NSW Police Force.
  • provide evidence in court proceedings as an Expert Witness based on specialised knowledge derived from skills, training, study and experience on matters such as fraud, money laundering, arson, homicide, and proceeds of crime.
  • establish and maintain sound working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly industry representatives, operational police and other relevant regulators.
  • assist the Forensic Accounting Unit in providing a professional level of customer service performing all duties efficiently and effectively in order to achieve the corporate objectives of the Police Force.
  • review, examine, analyse, interpret and reconstruct financial data relating to current forensic investigations.
  • maintain confidentiality and adhere to prescribed control procedures regarding security of information
Key challenges
  • delivery of prompt, consistent and accurate forensic accounting evidence and expert evidence in court proceedings.
  • manage a high volume demand and nature of requests for forensic accounting analysis from different commands within NSW Police Force with competing priorities and customer expectations.
  • interpret and present the findings using financial tools including spreadsheets, flowcharts and graphics for various financial related criminal investigations.

JOB NOTES:
 
Essential requirements - candidates must:
  • obtain and maintain the requisite security clearance for this role
  • hold a current driver’s licence with no traffic offences recorded on their driving history within the last six (6) months.
  • sound knowledge of the forensic accounting role in an investigative or law enforcement environment including providing professional expert advice.
  • demonstrated experience and extensive knowledge of financial accounting practices and procedures.
  • relevant tertiary qualifications and/or full current membership with a professional body (eg Chartered Accountants ANZ or CPA Australia)
