The Victorian Government has opened its $100 million Ballarat GovHub.

Almost 900 Victorian Public Service employees will begin moving to the new building next week.

The Ballarat site is one of three regional GovHubs in Victoria, which are intended to give public service employees options for working closer to home, and boost regional economies.

Staff from Service Victoria, Consumer Affairs Victoria, Working with Children Check Victoria, the State Revenue Office, Regional Development Victoria, the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, and the Department of Education and Training are among those moving to the Ballarat GovHub.

The building will also house the offices of VicRoads employees when the agency’s own customer hub opens for customers on May 10.

“The GovHub is a key part of our work to revitalise the Ballarat CBD, create local jobs, increase business confidence and attract private sector investment,” regional development minister Mary-Anne Thomas said in a statement.

“This is a landmark development and will underpin jobs for Ballarat people for generations to come.”

The hub tenants will also be recruiting local staff when vacancies become available. This practice has already begun for Consumer Affairs Victoria, which established an office in Ballarat in 2018.

Ms Thomas says over 1,000 jobs have been supported through the GovHub and the establishment of Police Assistance Line operations in Ballarat so far.

Work has begun on the Bendigo GovHub, and another facility in Latrobe Valley is expected to open this year.
