The Victorian Government has appointed career public servant Lynne Bertolini as the State's inaugural Freedom of Information (FoI) Commissioner.

The creation of the new office was announced following the establishment of an anti-corruption commission.

The State Government says Ms Bertolini’s appointment marks the most significant change to Victoria’s FoI regime since it was introduced 30 years ago,

Lynne Bertolini has more than 30 years’ experience working in regulatory and community- education positions across a range of portfolios including gaming, community and social services, consumer affairs and children’s policy, both in her native Canada and here in Victoria.

Until recently she was Director of Licensing and Approvals at the Victorian Commission for Gambling and Liquor Regulation (VCGLR). Prior to this, as Director of the Gambling Licences Project, she co-ordinated local and international investigations into the probity and technical capability of applicants for gaming licences.
