The Victorian Government may move its future budget announcements to avoid being blindsided by the Federal Government.

The Victorian budget has traditionally been handed down just a week before the federal budget.

But it now says uncertainty about Commonwealth funds that affect its budget could force it to delay the document.

The release of this year’s Victorian budget is locked in for May 5, and cannot be moved.

Victorian Treasurer Tim Pallas says he may change the date for future budgets to avoid being caught out by federal funding decisions.

The change would require the support of the Opposition and the Greens.

Mr Pallas says he has raised the idea with other parties, and that the Coalition had expressed some support.
