The Queensland Government is being pushed to reveal details of overseas trips taken by Ipswich councillors on public money.

Jailed former Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale, and associates including current councillor Paul Tully spent around a quarter of a million dollars on overseas trips, but details remain scarce.

Media outlet Nine News has received some insight from a Right to Information (RTI) request, showing that the directors of Ipswich City Properties Pty Ltd (ICP) - Mr Pisasale, former Ipswich council chief executive Carl Wulff and Cr Tully - spent around $85,000 travelling across the United States.

They visited San Francisco, Indianapolis, Chattanooga, Washington and New York City during the 2010 “economic development” trip to the US, and found time to deviate from the official itinerary to visit Las Vegas.

This was in addition to another trip in 2012 around Europe and the Middle East, during which they undertook what Queensland's Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC) calls “excessive spending” on a private jet and five-star hotels.

Over $250,000 was charged to ICP at a time when it was wholly owned by the Ipswich City Council. The rest of the spending by ICP during its 10 years of operation remains a mystery.

The Queensland Government is being pressured to reveal the rest of any other spending.

Mr Tully is being pressured to resign, but has rejected the call so far.

“Artie Fadden, when he was the prime minister of Australia said; ‘Never complain, never explain and never resign’, and Artie Fadden had it right,” Mr Tully said this week.
