The South Australian Government has released an Economic Statement which Premier Jay Weatherill has described as a ‘full and candid’ picture of the State’s economy.

Mr Weatherill released the plan earlier last week at a gathering of business and community leaders, saying that the independent analysis provides an assessment of the State’s prospects, risks and opportunities presented by the changing global economy.

The Premier said that the plan ‘sets out a very clear choice’ to focus on four major areas of the economy that will make the most difference in the state’s future – advanced manufacturing, vibrant city, clean premium food and mining services.

“We have a strong, diverse and resilient economy, but South Australians also know that we have always had to be more focused and more careful than other States to stay ahead of the game. We don’t have many of the advantages of other places,” Mr Weatherill said.

Mr Weatherill said that while the statement reassured South Australians about the economy, it shows that further changes are needed to ensure a prosperous economy and sets out a plan for the future.

“We must make choices about backing the businesses that are inventing the new products, designing the new services and taking them to the world,” Mr Weatherill said.
