The Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads has released the Integrated Freight Strategy for Queensland to provide a high-level strategic framework that supports more informed, consistent, coordinated and responsive strategies, plans and actions for the growing freight task in the state.

The Strategy will inform other transport planning and strategy documents which address specific modal decisions and contestability issues.

The Strategy is intended to enhance Queensland’s ability to respond to future freight growth and the associated issues, challenges and opportunities.

It focuses on the freight task and will guide the development of informed, responsive and coordinated solutions for freight by:

  • informing the development of broader state government plans and strategies
  • providing direction for informing national transport planning and reform agendas for transport and freight
  • informing industry’s business and freight investment decisions
  • fostering greater coordination and collaboration across government and industry about freight
  • providing direction for enhancing the utilisation of the transport system for freight operations.

The Strategy was developed collaboratively with stakeholders including the Queensland Transport and Logistics Council, Federal and local government, industry associations, transport operators, infrastructure owners and freight customers.

The process included various discussions, meetings, workshops and public submissions via TMR’s website. Accordingly, the Strategy reflects many of the ideas raised during consultation and therefore balances the diverse freight interests of a broad range of stakeholders.
