Queensland has become the next state to sign up to the Federal Government’s National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

“I am delighted to have reached an agreement with the Commonwealth about the NDIS that will benefit tens-of-thousands of Queenslanders when it is implemented on 1 July 2019,” Queensland’s Premier Campbell Newman said.

“With the Commonwealth clarifying its position about how it will fund its component of the scheme, I am satisfied that Queenslanders with a disability now have certainty, meaning that we can proceed.”

Queensland’s decision to sign up to the Scheme comes after Victoria joined earlier last week, meaning over 100,000 Victorians will have access to the services offered by the scheme when it rolls out in 2019.

The Commonwealth will contribute $2.6 billion to the rollout of the scheme, while the Victorian Government will allocate $2.5 billion.
