The Queensland Government has announced the allocation of its $20 million Community Development and Recovery Package, with 17 of the worst affected councils sharing in $9 million of the funding.

The funding is provided to local councils to develop independent disaster recovery programs as well as public memorials, anniversary events, community events and festivals, and community education and information about disaster preparedness.

The funding is an extension of Queensland’s Disaster Management Act 2003 which requires local governments to prepare a local disaster management plan
