The New South Wales Government has released a reform plan for the State Government procurement strategy.

The Strategic Directions Statement outlines over 80 actions the State Government will take in the coming 18 months that it says will make it easier, simpler and more attractive to do business with Government.

State Finance Minister, Greg Pearce, said the roadmap will form a blueprint for a stronger and more flexible procurement system for the State.

“The NSW Government spends around $13 billion a year on goods and services, and unless we get our procurement practices right we will not get value for money or improve the quality of government services," Mr Pearce said.

The plan ahead includes:

  • Simplified procurement contract templates;
  • A NSW Government competition policy;
  • New cross agency groups to devise strategies for purchases across sectors;
  • New online tools for government and suppliers; and
  • New vocational and tertiary procurement capability programs for government procurement officers
