Tens of thousands of NSW public servants can soon expect a pay rise.

The NSW Public Sector Association has secured a 4 per cent pay rise and a 0.5 per cent boost in superannuation for its members.

This new agreement, brokered through the NSW Industrial Relations Commission, is set to cover approximately 80,000 public service employees, with the pay hike backdated to July 1.

Unlike typical federal multi-year agreements, the NSW unions take an annual case to the negotiating table.

For over a decade, unions have battled to break free from the clutches of a 2.5 per cent wage growth cap enforced by the previous Labor state government, a move relished by the succeeding Coalition government.

Due to the tenacious efforts of the Public Sector Association and key unions, that cap is now gone.

The scope of the deal is still unfolding, but preliminary reports suggest that a wide range of dedicated professionals will enjoy the benefits.

Among them are prison officers, park rangers, school support staff, child protection workers, case workers, Rural Fire Service employees, State Emergency Service employees, Service NSW staff, and public servants from various government departments.
