The New South Wales Office of Finance and Services (OFS) is laying the groundwork for its new security arrangements for digital information.

The OFS has issued a circular - NSW Government Digital Information Security Policy - featuring revised requirements forcing government agencies to set up an Information Security Management System to cover standards for certification, attestation and maturity progress reporting.

The OFS say all NSW Public Service Agencies and Shared Service Providers must comply with the policy, but it recommends state-owned corporations, Local Governments and public universities should take it on too.

The Circular says the policy aims to ensure that authorised restrictions for access to and disclosure of information, including personal or proprietary information, are upheld.

It says that information must be protected against unauthorised alteration, destruction, and successful challenges to its authenticity.

The new requirements also seek to ensure that authorised users are provided with timely and reliable access to information and services.
