Reports say Gladys Berejiklian was in charge of a fund that set aside $5.5 million for a project backed by a corrupt MP.

It appears that the New South Wales Government bankrolled a development from a fund Premier Gladys Berejiklian oversaw, which disgraced MP Daryl Maguire and his business partners later attempted to profit from.

The fund reserved $5.5 million for the Australian Clay Target Association's clubhouse and convention centre in Wagga Wagga. Mr Maguire was a major proponent of having a convention centre in Wagga Wagga.

After the grants went through, Mr Maguire attempted to gain a commission from the clubhouse development, according to evidence given to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC).

There is no suggestion that the Premier was aware Mr Maguire had sought to financially profit from the development.

But the revelations rightly raise questions about the Premier's facilitation of grants within Mr Maguire's electorate.
