The Tasmanian Greens are no longer parliamentary party, as votes from the recent state election show shifting opinions in the home of the Greens movement.

Former deputy leader of the Tasmanian Greens Tim Morris has been voted out of the expansive rural seat of Lyons. Morris was ousted by Labor stalwart David Llewellyn.

The departure of Mr Morris drops the Greens short of the four MPs required for parliamentary party recognition.

“Yes, that's disappointing but that's what the voters have chosen,” Mr Morris said this week in an interview with the ABC.

“That will be reasonably significant for the party and the way that it operates in the Parliament.”

The switch may be thrown the other way in the seat of Bass however, where Greens MP Kim Booth has pulled ahead of former Labor Attorney-General Brian Wightman.

The tally of votes is expected to continue until the weekend, and is being closely tracked by Australian media outlets.
