The Royal Hospital for Women has been one of Australia’s foremost specialist hospitals for women and babies, since its early beginnings as New South Wales first ‘lying-in’ hospital for women in 1820. As a principal teaching hospital of the University of NSW in the fields of obstetrics, gynaecology, gynaecology oncology and neonatology the Royal has a history of innovation in women’s health care services, teaching and research.

The UNSW oocyte biology research group is led by Professor Rob Gilchrist and collaborates closely with Dr Rachael Rodgers and the clinical team. While the holder of the current position will be primarily clinically focused, they will have an excellent opportunity to become part of the clinical research team. Current projects include in vitro and in vivo protection of the meiotic spindle to improve quality of oocytes from older patients, use of AMH to protect primordial follicles from the effects of cytotoxic chemotherapy and use of novel biomarkers in oocyte and embryo biology, along with our work in oncofertility.
The specialist will provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department/service.

SESLHD covers urban and suburban communities and manages eight public hospitals and one public nursing home:

- Sutherland Hospital
- Sydney/Sydney Eye Hospital

- Garrawarra Centre
Drug and Alcohol, Mental Health, Breast screening, HIV/AIDS, Public Health, Women's Health, Youth Health, Sexual Health, Imaging and Pathology services are provided at a number of facilities across SESLHD.
The primary location of this position may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by MDAAC to other facilities in SESLHD.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.

- Registration or eligible for registration with Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA). Candidate to provide AHPRA Registration Number on application.
- Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and/or equivalent specialist recognition as provided for by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and the relevant Award/Determination, demonstrated subspecialty training and certification in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (CREI).
- Demonstrated commitment to the provision of high-quality public service including compliance with relevant public sector policies and clinical practices. Demonstrated commitment to ensuring public resources and services are primarily for the access of public patients.
- Demonstrated commitment and active contribution to safety and quality programs and activities including understanding and compliance with the National Safety and Quality in Health Service Standards. Active participation in appropriate peer review / morbidity and mortality meetings consistent with best practice guidelines.
- Demonstrated commitment to and current experience in formal and informal teaching and supervision of junior medical officers and the broader multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated professionalism as expected of a senior Medical Practitioner including role modelling an ethical behaviour, accountability and the CORE values. Demonstrated ability and willingness to comply with organisational mandatory training / education requirements.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to collaborate and partner with women in their health care to ensure informed decision making and a person-centred approach to care provision.
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work flexibly and cooperatively with the hospital to ensure effective public service provision, including participating in the on-call roster and attending handovers when requested. Willingness to ensure public duties are not compromised by individual private commitments.
