Vegetation Control Officer

Our Emerald team currently has an exciting opportunity for a Vegetation Officer to join their team on a full-time basis. This position covers over a large distance of track in the Central West. 

The purpose of the Vegetation Control Officer is to control vegetation effectively and efficiently in network north both on and off track to the standards determined by legislation. Use herbicides in a safe and efficient manner to deliver a cost effective and timely service.

What Queensland Rail has to Offer 

  • Base Salary of $85,000 with earnings
  • 9-day fortnight - 0700 to 1600 (Mon-Fri one week, Mon-Thur following)
  • Travel on paid work time including expenses & accommodation
  • Paid training and ongoing support - including Cert II in Rail Infrastructure
  • All PPE & tools supplied

About the role

  • Operate the spray truck and other supplied spraying equipment efficiently and effectively to apply herbicide to the permanent way, station yards, sidings and other required infrastructure
  • Carry out basic maintenance, to the pumps, spraying system and associated plumbing of the spray equipment. Organise servicing and repairs for the truck, pumps and spraying equipment to ensure that itis effectively maintained.
  • Manage the storage of herbicide and spraying equipment at your depot and keep an inventory of all herbicides and the distribution. Keep your area of the depot in a clean and safe condition that meets the requirements of the depot safety audit.
  • Carry out inspections of vegetation within the Central West Area of control and assist in the preparation of the annual district herbicide spray program. Carry out an annual declared plant audit of the Network
  • Proactively work to develop and maintain a harmonious working relationship through regular consultation and negotiation with the Vegetation Specialist and the Queensland Rail Environmental section, South East, operations and planning staff, herbicide suppliers, local authorities and the Department of Natural Resources & Environment.
  • Participate in programs and training to ensure high performance levels 
  • Apply and adhere to all Acts, policy’s and legislations when it comes to Agricultural Chemicals and Safety 

To be successful in the role you will need

  • Previous experience working with herbicide advantageous however not mandatory
  • MR Licence
  • To be prepared to camp away for rostered work outside of the Emerald Central West region and in sometimes remote locations
  • Be available to work occasional night shift as required
