  • Salary: $116,325 - $141,829 (salary above the base is dependent on skills and experience) plus 15% superannuation

ActewAGL’s in-house legal team is seeking a highly organised, collaborative, dynamic lawyer to join its team as a Legal Counsel. Reporting to the Group Manager Legal, this position will be responsible for providing legal services and support on a broad range of issues to ActewAGL Retail, ActewAGL Distribution (including Evoenergy) and their related businesses.

About the role
A day in the life of a Legal Counsel would include but not limited to :

  • Providing high quality and timely legal advice in relation to business matters including utilities and energy legislation, energy distribution and sale, general commercial law, operational contracts and tenders, competition and consumer laws, and marketing.
  • Preparing or assisting in the preparation of, legal documents and correspondence.
  • Depending on experience, represent, or assist in arranging representation for, ActewAGL and its related businesses before tribunals, courts or regulatory bodies.
  • Liaise with external legal service providers as necessary or required.
  • Provide in-house legal training to non-legal staff as necessary or required.

The successful applicant will demonstrate attention to detail and an analytical mindset, analysing and synthesising complex information and issues into meaningful and practical advice.

Our ideal candidate will be customer focused, able to work in a team or independently, familiar with energy and utilities law and have experience in statutory interpretation and drafting contracts and tenders.

About you

  • Demonstrate a positive and innovative outlook.
  • You enjoy problem solving and have a curious and analytical mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in law from a common law jurisdiction.
  • Currently holds, or is eligible to hold, a practising certificate in the ACT.
  • Proficient with electronic legal document management systems.
