ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Network Engineer, responsibilities include maintaining, administering, configuring, and operating OCMS Systems & Networks to ensure uninterrupted train services and project delivery. Provide technical support and delivery capabilities to internal and external stakeholders. Collaborate with Project Managers and other stakeholders to plan and deliver the Annual Works OCMS Plan (AWOP) and Franchise Operational Control Management System Management Plan (FOMP). Monitor progress and report status to meet MR4 Franchise Obligations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Network Engineer will support and enhance MTM's Operational Control Systems and Network Infrastructure, focusing on Signalling Systems and Train Control, and conduct systems engineering on related interfacing systems and networks.
  • Liaise with professional and technical staff for setting up hardware, software, and operating system environments, carry out integration tasks, perform data configuration, and resolve complex problems.
  • Contributing to the development of an ensuring network designs are fit-for-purpose and future-proofed to enable ease of maintenance and monitoring.
  • Responsible for System and Network Configuration, Administration, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with the development and adherence to an OCMS Security Policy framework.
  • Manage the introduction of new technology including engineering change, risk management, training, and documentation.
  • Perform any other duties as specified by the manager.

ABOUT YOU

  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Telecommunications, Computer Systems, Software Systems) or equivalent recognised by Engineers Australia
  • At least five years of Network/Systems Engineering or related experience;
  • Demonstrated experience in network engineering and security and network device hardware configuration;
  • Demonstrated experience in network monitoring systems;
  • Proven experience working in and administering medium to large Linux environments;
  • Experience in both open-source and commercial software configuration and management;
  • Exposure to Cisco Systems range of products and IOS is desirable,
  • Exposure to one or more of the following is preferred:
    • Siemens RuggedComm range of products and ROX Operating System
    • Westermo range of products and WeOS Operating System
    • Extreme Networks range of products and ExtremeXOS Operating System
    • Juniper Networks range of products and Junos Operating System
    • Virtualisation software applications and platforms such as VMware ESXi
    • Siemens WinCC OA application
    • Software licensing management
