The Opportunity

The Albury Prosthetics & Orthotics Service (APOS) new-graduate position is a 12-month full-time clinical role designed to support a new graduate to launch their career within P&O and develop their professional identity. The program provides the successful applicant with individual support to optimise learning and career opportunities. You will have onsite access to a clinical supervisor who will work with you and support you to grow your clinical and professional skills.

As a new graduate, you will spend approximately 6 months working with the Prosthetics team and 6 months working with the Orthotics team under supervision of senior team members.

The successful applicant will engage in the provision of prosthetic and orthotic services on site at APOS. You will be involved in performing diagnostic and clinical examinations, developing rehabilitation treatment plans as well as consulting, manufacturing, repairing and fitting prosthetic and orthotic devices. You will also have a valid driver’s licence and be willing to travel to outreach clinics in Wagga Wagga and Dubbo.

Albury Prosthetics Orthotics Service (APOS) is located in Lavington alongside the Southwest Brain Injury Service and provides care to a range of Prosthetic and Orthotic patients of all ages. Specialising in rehabilitation, the service works in collaboration with internal/external referrers and multi-disciplinary allied health teams including high-risk foot clinics, tone and function clinics, operating theatres as well as physiotherapy and orthopaedic services. The APOS team, consisting of 9 clinical, 2 technical and 2 admin support positions, cares deeply about the positive patient care-experience. The team is passionate about assisting our clients, and their families, to achieve desired life goals and get them ‘moving through life’.

APOS is a registered NDIS provided and, as a service on a border town, APOS works with multiple funding agencies in both NSW and Victoria.

Albury Wodonga is home to the winding Murray River, and its other main waterway, Lake Hume, is six times larger than Sydney Harbour.   • The Prosthetist/Orthotist is responsible for clinical assessment and provision of suitable prosthetic devices to meet functional goals. Provide an example of a situation where you were required to discuss a range of options to a patient where some or all of the options were unfamiliar to them. How did you engage with the patient and how did you ensure optimal clinical outcomes?
  • Provide an example of a time when you required others' expertise, as well as your own, to achieve a clinical goal. Describe how the collaboration resulted in a successful outcome for the patient.
  • What Work Health Safety issues are important to consider in the clinical and fabrication environment?

COVID-19 Vaccination Compliance
