The Department

The Victorian Melanoma Service (VMS) provides co-ordinated multidisciplinary management for adult patients with melanoma. An important component of this care is the Clinical Trial/Research activities we participate in, which enable us to offer forthcoming diagnostic and investigational treatments to our patients. The Unit conducts clinical trials and cohort studies, incorporating both industry sponsored and investigator driven studies.

The Department of Dermatology at Alfred Health provides treatment of skin disorders. The Department of Dermatology deals with severe cutaneous adverse reactions, inflammatory and autoimmune skin disease, and non-melanoma skin cancers. The unit provides multiple outpatient clinics per week. The research aspect of this unit is growing – it will soon offer over 10 clinical trials for inflammatory and autoimmune skin disease as well as non-melanoma skin cancers. This allows offering treatment options otherwise unavailable for patients with serious chronic skin conditions and being involved with shaping future treatments in Dermatology.

The VMS – Dermatology CRC role is to coordinate and provide support to the research team, for all aspects of the running of clinical trials. Specifically, covering communication with the Office of Ethics and Governance and reporting, communication with trial sponsors and clinical research organisation representatives.
