Join our high-performing team to provide strategic advice and deliver a research and evaluation program. Support the Centre for Population Health (CPH) in translating evidence into policies and programs within the NSW Health Healthy Eating and Active Living portfolio.

Crown Clerk 9/10, starting salary from $120,859 - $133,183 plus Super and annual leave loading, with a 35-hour work week.

Where you'll be working
The Centre for Population Health (CPH) is part of the Population and Public Health Division in the NSW Ministry of Health.

The Centre for Population Health (CPH) aims to promote health and to prevent morbidity and mortality caused by modifiable risk factors. The CPH portfolio encompasses alcohol and other drugs; hepatitis B and C; sexually transmissible infections including HIV; tobacco; and healthy eating and active living. The strategies used to address these issues include state-wide policy and planning, legislation and regulation, program development, resource allocation, performance monitoring, research, and evaluation.

Programs and services funded by the CPH are delivered in government, non-government, community, and clinical settings. The CPH approach is characterized by a focus on evidence-informed programmatic and system-level interventions that improve health, reduce health inequity, create healthy environments, promote community action, enable personal health-seeking and recognize the social determinants of good health.

What you'll be doing 
You will be responsible for coordinating, contributing to, and providing advice on the research and evaluation aspects of healthy eating and active living programs and initiatives managed by the CPH.  To do this you will need to:

  • Work collaboratively with CPH staff, LHDs and other stakeholders to design, coordinate, conduct and translate research and evaluation findings into policy and practice.
  • Analyse, visualise and report on a variety of population health data sources to help inform policy, strategy, program design or evaluation.
  • Manage and contribute to project proposals and plans etc.
  • Manage consultancy agreements with external research agencies.
  • Provide timely, strategic advice and policy support to the Data and Evaluation team on all aspects of research, evaluation and performance monitoring of healthy eating and active living initiatives.
  • Continuously develop knowledge and skills in the application of new or innovative research and evaluation methods
  • Support data, research and evaluation capability building and governance across CPH

Essential requirements (must haves)

  1. Master’s level qualification or equivalent experience in public health
  2. Demonstrated experience of project management
  3. Demonstrated understanding of evidence-based practice in health promotion
  4. Demonstrated skills in executing research projects and program evaluations
  5. Demonstrated experience in quantitative data analysis
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  7. Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
