About this role
We are seeking a highly skilled individual to join our dynamic NCIRS team as a Senior Research Fellow. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of projects with a particular focus on supporting NCIRS population health surveillance and research using linked data. This role is a leadership position within NCIRS.
The candidate will be expected to have high level data analysis, interpretation and scientific writing skills, the ability to work with and provide expert advice to other research staff and demonstrate a commitment to professional development.

What you will be doing
The Senior Research Fellow in Population Health at NCIRS leads key project activities, contributes to operational management, conducts research to inform immunisation policy, collaborates with partners, and prepares research protocols. The role involves supervising and supporting various team members, participating in educational activities, and contributing to research and surveillance at NCIRS.
About you
We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual with a robust academic background, substantial research expertise, and a proven ability to contribute effectively to immunisation research and policy development. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, and be adept at working collaboratively within a team. Strong organisational and technical skills, including proficiency in statistical packages, are essential. The successful candidate should also have a notable publication track record and experience in supervising postgraduate students, reflecting a commitment to both research excellence and educational leadership.
This appointment will be full time for 12 months, with the possibility of extension. NCIRS supports flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working agreements. Part-time hours can be considered for the preferred candidate.
About NCIRS
NCIRS is the leading organisation in Australia in immunisation and vaccines that provides expert advice to support evidence-informed immunisation policy and guideline development, evaluation of immunisation programs, particularly the National Immunisation Program, and the monitoring of vaccine-preventable diseases, vaccine coverage and factors impacting uptake, and vaccine safety. NCIRS has national and international recognition in this arena and has a growing program of international work, focused on providing technical support for immunisation system strengthening to countries in the Indo-Pacific region.
NCIRS is a collaborative team of experts in public health, biostatistics, infectious diseases, paediatrics, internal medicine, epidemiology, communication, social science and quantitative and qualitative research and survey methods. www.ncirs.org.au
The Centre is based within the Division of Research of the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, Westmead Campus, NSW, Australia, but has an all-age research remit and is affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Sydney Institute for Infectious Diseases (Sydney ID) at the University of Sydney. NCIRS is funded primarily by the Australian Government and NSW Government, as well as via grants from WHO, Gavi, and research granting bodies.
- Relevant doctoral or equivalent qualification, and Master of Public Health or applied epidemiology or equivalent with extensive research experience
- Experience in vaccine preventable diseases, immunisation research and policy development
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills, both written and verbal and ability to work individually or within a team
- Demonstrated high level ability in scientific writing (including a publication track record) and the ability to produce high quality technical reports
- Excellent organisational skills including planning, time management and attention to detail
- Excellent computer skills and good statistical skills, including the use of statistical packages such as SPSS, SAS, STATA
- Strong track record in epidemiology and or public health research
- Experience in supervising postgraduate students and in teaching
