ABOUT THE ROLE
NSW Ambulance Senior Staff Psychologists are experienced psychologists who provide personal or workplace support to staff in addition to NSW Ambulance Peer Support Officers, Chaplains, Grievance Contact Officers and an external Employee Assistance Psychological Services (EAPS) provider. The Senior Staff Psychologists are located within various operational management teams around the state to deliver services locally, and are part of the multidisciplinary Staff Health team, based at the Sydney Operations Centre, Sydney Olympic Park.
The role of the Senior Staff Psychologist is to provide evidence-based psychological services to staff, volunteers and contractors in a high tempo, rapidly changing environment, as agreed upon in consultation with the Principal Psychologists. These services include personal and organisational risk mitigation, a range of assessment services and brief clinical interventions such as employee support, the delivery of Psychological First Aid and post-incident support, consultation and advice. Senior Staff Psychologists also work within the organisation to build workforce wellbeing and capacity by providing voluntary Well Checks, advice to management, training, and education.
The Senior Staff Psychologist also provides an advice and consultation service to managers regarding the psychological and emotional health of employees, as well as other issues which impinge on the health and wellbeing of staff. The Senior Staff Psychologist provides advice to local Peer Support Officers, Chaplains and Grievance Contact Officers in relation to their roles. The Senior Staff Psychologist evaluates services as required by the Principal Psychologists and participates and contributes to quality improvement initiatives, and the delivery of specialist training. The position will also participate in other tasks which support the Principal Psychologists and activities of NSW Ambulance as a whole.
