About the role
The Director, Claims is a senior leadership role that reports to the Executive Director, Scheme Reform. It is accountable for ensuring WorkSafe’s Claims strategy is aligned to achieving great outcomes for injured workers and better return to work outcomes for the scheme. The position is responsible for execution across Workers’ Compensation claims in Victoria, including initial claims eligibility, ongoing income support and eligibility, health treatment benefits, return to work and impairment benefits.
Key Accountabilities
- Leading the Claims Division, Authorised Agents who are appointed under the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and any insourced claims management operations in the development and implementation of best practice claims management strategies and operation; measured through return to work performance, service performance, liability management on overall benefit delivery.
- Provide leadership to the Claims Division to enhance the performance of the Division, specifically around innovation, best practice and technical expertise of these areas to improve the overall scheme performance across return to work, liability management and service.
- Lead the design, implementation and ongoing review, of sensitive, appropriate controls in claims processes to aid compliance with legislative requirements and delivery of high quality operational management processes.
- Proactively lead, develop and oversee effective partnerships and relationships with senior management in WorkCover Agents, the Medical Panel, WIC, internally with Recovery, Planning & Performance, Corporate Legal and Dispute Management, and key worker and employer representatives

About you
You are an experienced insurance professional who wants to make a difference, with demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of performance in a demanding Senior Leadership position.
- Previous experience in leading an operations, policy, compliance or other work environment relevant to the functions of an Insurance function and understanding of the legislation governing WorkSafe Victoria
- Experienced in establishing robust people practices that drive engagement and high performance of teams
- Demonstrated ability to identify, analyse and determine approaches for solving issues which impact on the WorkSafe Scheme
- Extensive experience leading leaders, empowering them to work collaboratively with their teams to build upon capability and performance through effective mentoring, professional development and coaching
- Highly developed interpersonal skills and verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to deal with senior management both within and external to the Authority and provide high level advice both internally and externally on matters pertaining to WorkSafe Insurance systems
