VicWater welcomes Indigenous chair
VicWater has announced new board appointments.
Victoria’s Water Minister Lisa Neville has announced the first ever Aboriginal Chair for the authority.
Rueben Berg, a Gunditjmara man, will take up the appointment of Chair at Westernport Water.
There are 54 new and 65 returning board appointments made. The board members were appointed by an independent panel and in another Victorian first, included proud Yorta Yorta woman, Seona James on the selection panel.
Aboriginal representation has increased to 13 board members with the latest appointments, up from 11 in 2019.
Representation of female board members now sits at 57 per cent, and at 59 per cent for CMA board members, up from 38 per cent in 2014.
“Victoria’s water entities have a strong history of dedicated representatives and these appointments continue our work in establishing a culture of fairness, diversity, expertise and equity,” Ms Neville said.
Greater Western Water’s board members commenced in July, with the integration of City West Water and Western Water, the remaining board members' term commences in October.
