Victorian Building and Plumbing Industry Commissioner resigns
The Victorian Building and Plumbing Industry Commissioner Tony Arnel has resigned after 12 years in the position.
Since the election of the Coalition, Mr Arnel oversaw the Victorian Government’s response to the 2009 Victorian Bushfires Royal Commission and introduced strengthened building standards and the development of a standard for private bushfire shelters.
From 11 February 2012, Mr Michael Kefford will be appointed Victoria’s Building and Plumbing Commissioner for a one-year term, while a process to appoint a permanent replacement is undertaken.
Mr Kefford will advise on appropriate reforms and oversee the implementation of the government’s response to the Auditor-General’s report into the building permit system.
Mr Kefford previously served as Victoria’s former Plumbing Commissioner for six years until his retirement in 2004.
Since his retirement, Mr Kefford has maintained an active interest in the building industry and has continued to provide expert advice within the industry.
