The Victorian Government has announced it will shed hundreds of jobs from the Department of Human Services (DHS), which will form part of the 3,600 jobs that will be cut from the Victorian public service over the next two years.

According to the DHS, the 500 full-time role cuts will be formed from a combination of natural attrition and voluntary redundancies as part of a restructuring of the department.

State Community Services Minister Mary Wooldridge said that the restructuring will allow the department to streamline its services and better deal with complex cases.

The restructuring will see the right regional areas replaced by 17 local branches.

Ms Wooldridge has mad assurances that the department’s restructuring and job losses will not affect front line services.
