Tasmanians speak out on satisfaction
The Local Government Association of Tasmania has completed its annual survey of resident satisfaction across councils.
It found that overall council residents in Tasmania have become marginally less satisfied with their shire's administration; with annual decreases in overall satisfaction over the last ten years.
The study has found that over-75s are the most satisfied age group in the state, with people aged 45 to 54 claiming they are least content with the running of their councils.
When asked which area of council activity needs the most work, there was a clear winner every year the study has been conducted. Roads, footpaths and traffic are the main concerns of many respondents, highlighted as a problem by 25 per cent of Tasmanians this year. More than twice the amount of people are worried about potholes as waste management.
Significant percentages of respondents said it was very important to move ahead on plans to recognise local government in the federal constitution. Interestingly, people aged either 18 to 34 or over 75 found the referendum most important.
