The Chief Executive of the South Australian Environmental Protection Authority Helen Fulcher has advised the SA Government she will retire when her contract ends on August 31 this year.

Minister for Environment and Conservation Paul Caica said Ms Fulcher has made a significant contribution to the state’s environmental regulator since her appointment as Chief Executive of the EPA in September 2008.

“During Ms Fulcher’s appointment, the EPA has taken significant steps toward improving transparency in its processes and in providing greater accessibility to the information it holds, reflecting a strong commitment to community engagement,’’ he said.

“In her time as the Chief Executive of the EPA, Ms Fulcher has provided a strong voice for South Australia at national environmental strategic policy forums, including her work as the chair of the National Chemicals Environment Management working group established by the Environmental Protection and Heritage Council.

“She has also led effective contributions to a number of our own State Government’s strategic agendas such as the 30 Year Plan for Greater Adelaide, Water for Good and key forums such as the Natural Resources Management council.

“I thank Ms Fulcher for her contribution and wish her well for the future upon her retirement.”

Mr Caica said the State Government will now embark upon a national recruitment process to identify potential candidates to take up the position of Chief Executive of the EPA in September.
