Regional staffing slashed
The Department of Regional NSW has announced the elimination of over 100 roles.
The decision, unveiled during an all-staff meeting this week, is part of a broader reorganisation effort aimed at the regional-focused entity.
Some temporary contractors learned only hours later that they would be unable to complete their contracts.
Specifically, slides shared at the meeting reportedly indicate May 31 will be the proposed termination date for 69 ‘delimited’ temporary positions.
According to department officials, these cuts are integral to a plan endorsed by Rebecca Fox, the department head. Staff have been invited to share their feedback on this proposal by April 18.
The restructuring plan includes the discontinuation of 37 ongoing positions, with a promise of redeployment or reassignment for affected permanent staff. The plan also introduces 27 new roles, including 11 ongoing positions.
The proposal has sparked concern about the government's commitment to addressing regional NSW issues, with the staff feeling blindsided by the move.
