Queensland rules out hospital privatisation
The Queensland Government has promised it won’t privatise any existing public hospitals in the state, following the delivery of the final Commission of Audit Report earlier this week.
State Health Minister, Lawrence Springborg, said that the fear around the report’s approach to hospitals was unfounded, and that nothing in the report suggested privatising any hospitals.
“The Government’s ‘Blueprint for Better Healthcare’, along with the Commission of Audit report, makes it clear that under this Government not one of our existing hospitals will be privatised. Not one,” Mr Springborg said.
Mr Springborg described the fear around the privatisation of health services as “inflammatory hysterical rantings” from unions.
In relation to hospitals yet to be built, Mr Springborg said the State Government remained open-minded as to the best models for operating them once they came on-line. But he confirmed free universal hospital coverage would remain locked in place under the LNP under any model.
