The Queensland Reconstruction Authority has released its second monthly report into the damages caused by flooding and cyclones earlier this year.

The Monthly Report – April 2011 shows the following key highlights:

  • 6,156 km of State Roads now recovered, an increase of 26% (2,355 km) since the last report
  • 4,298 km of the railway network repaired, an increase of 3% (490 km) since the last report
  • All 11 ports affected by the natural disasters now back to full operation
  • 411 schools across the state were affected, only 1 school (Milpera State School) is still operating from an alternative location.
  • 3,042 grants totalling $17 million had been paid to small business, up 41% since the last report
  • 2,939 grants totalling over $15 million had been paid to primary producers, up 45% since the last report
  • 646,000 Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payments were made, totalling approximately $745 million, an increase of 16,000 payments.

The State Government also released another two documents in the recovery process: The Operation Queenslander Implementation Plan and the Operation Queenslander Local Plan guide.

The Implementation Plan sits beneath the overarching State Plan and sets out how the complex rebuilding tasks will proceed. Local Plans will be developed by those who know and understand local conditions best. The guide is a practical tool to help communities work through the planning and rebuilding process.
