Queensland calls for tenders for new aerospace and defence hub
The Queensland Government has announced a call for tenders for the planned $150 million aerospace and defence industry hub at Amberly in the state’s south east.
The State Government has formally called for business case and master plan tenders to develop the industry support centre.
Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development Andrew Fraser encouraged interested businesses to submit their proposals to take the existing concept for the 183ha Cunningham Highway site to the feasibility stage.
“Queensland stands to benefit enormously from the centre’s future development, with up to 3,500 Queensland jobs to be created and the ability to generate more than $10 billion in economic activity over the long-term,” Mr Fraser said.
“It will create exciting new growth opportunities for specialist aerospace and defence support companies to work alongside the Australian Defence Force at Amberley’s RAAF Base.
“Importantly, the business case and master plan will ensure the Amberley centre will be able to accommodate the right mix of companies and related industries to service the Australian Defence Force and broader aerospace sector.”
Tenders close on 14 November 2011. Visit www.qgm.qld.gov.au to submit an e-tender.
Construction of the proposed centre could start as early as 2013.
