QLD Council slashes jobs, increases rates
One Queensland council is seeking to trim the fat from its own services, axing more than 100 jobs to save $10 million.
The Sunshine Coast Council has announced it will be sacking about 70 current staff and cutting off 50 vacant positions when its budget was released this week. The Council is hoping to save around $10 million in its $538 million budget.
The budget also includes a 5 per cent rates rise, so far relatively low for the state.
The Sunshine Coast Council is one of a few that chose to de-amalgamate this year, after legislation was introduced allowing Councils to undo the forced amalgamation imposed by the previous State Government.
