Qenos open for business in Melbourne
Chinese petrochemical and plastics giant Qenos has officially opened its new $195 million manufacturing centre in Melbourne’s west.
Premier Denis Napthine was joined by President of ChemChina Ren Jianxin to open the new centre in Altona earlier this week.
“This is a great day for Victoria and a massive boost for manufacturing in Melbourne’s west.” Dr Napthine said.
“Qenos represents one of China’s largest investments in Victoria with more than 400 full time staff employed at this site.
“It is the largest manufacturer of plastics and petrochemicals in Australia and this $195 million redevelopment will boost production by a further 20 per cent.
“This upgrade involves converting ethane gas, from Longford, into steam to drive turbines and generate power for Qenos’ operations.
“It also includes a number of plant upgrades that will support research and development programs to develop new high value-added products.
