The New South Wales Government has opened the Environmental Assessment (EA) of Sydney Water’s $225 million to the public for a consultation period.

In opening the EA, State Minister for Services Greg Pearce said the project is an essential part of the NSW Government’s plan to provide future growth in the Illawarra.

“Sydney Water plans to provide water and wastewater services to 30,000 new homes and nearly 500 hectares of non-residential development over the next four decades,” Mr Pearce said.

“This plan takes in Kembla Grange, Sheaffes, Wongawilli, West Horsley, Cleveland, Avondale, Yallah, Marshall Mount, Huntley, Calderwood, Tallawarra Lands and Tullimbar Village.”

The proposal includes the design, construction, operation and maintenance of:

  • 80 km of new drinking water pipelines
  • 45 km of new wastewater pipelines
  • one new drinking water pumping station and five new drinking water reservoirs
  • three new wastewater pumping stations and an upgrade of three existing wastewater pumping stations.

Mr Pearce said the proposal also includes potential upgrades to Wollongong Water Recycling Plant and Shellharbour Wastewater Treatment Plant.

“Sydney Water is working closely with Department of Planning and Infrastructure local councils, the Illawarra Urban Development Committee and other stakeholders while developing the proposal,” he said.
