Queensland's chief scientist, Professor Suzanne Miller, has been charged with fraud by the Crime and Corruption Commission (CCC).

The CCC says the charges relate to a private health insurance claim worth $45,000.

Between February 1, 2014 and July 24, 2017, Suzanne Miller is accused on dishonestly gaining approximately $45,000 in benefits for herself using private health insurance of the Queensland Museum.

Professor Miller is the CEO and director of the Queensland Museum Network, and is expected to appear in court on August 8.

She was appointed to the role of chief scientist in December 2016, and is the state's third chief scientist and first woman to hold the post.

Professor Miller has previously worked as director of the South Australian Museum from 2007 to 2013.
