The Tasmanian Government has appointed URS and Deloitte to oversee a strategic review of Forestry Tasmania (FT).

The Premier, Lara Giddings, said the consultants were “well placed to conduct this review and provide advice on how FT can adapt to the rapidly changing forest industry."

She said that while the stage one report would be handed down in October, the full review was ‘a significant undertaking’ and was expected to take some time.

The Minister for Energy and Resources, Bryan Green, said the review would help maintain the ongoing viability of Forestry Tasmania.

"We are experiencing a period of significant change in the Tasmanian forest industry and Forestry Tasmania needs to be able to understand how to adapt to that change," Mr Green said.

“Throughout this process our focus will be on maintaining a strong and viable forest sector that maximises job opportunities for Tasmanians.

"This review will comprehensively examine the current operations of FT. It will also look ahead to the roles and responsibilities of our forest managers into the future, " Mr Green said.
