Corruption called-out on watchdog radio
Victoria’s Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission (IBAC) has launched a podcast series.
The online audio episodes are aimed at helping public sector staff understand corruption, and ways to avoid it.
In the first episode, IBAC talks to Professor AJ Brown from Griffith University on the importance of blowing the whistle on corruption and misconduct.
“In the not too distant past, the whole idea of a whistleblower was very contentious,” Professor Brown said.
“It almost was synonymous with just simply a dobber or somebody who was trying to do the right thing but they were pretty strange.
“The thing that most people are most concerned about is whether anybody is listening.
“Will anybody do something about this, does anybody want to know?
“These days we actually recognise that almost anybody could end up being a whistleblower depending on the circumstances and depending on what they are confronted with.
“And the value of whistleblowing and the role it plays in exposing wrong doing of all sorts is much, much better recognised.”
