A bill to set up the ACT’s new integrity commission has been tabled.

The Legislative Assembly is expected to pass the new laws to form the ACT Integrity Commission today.

The new regime will require senior public servants (SES-level and above) to mandatorily report requirements.

If they see potentially serious corruption and do not report it, they face fines of up to $7,500.

It also requires chiefs of staff of ministers (and the Opposition Leader) to report conduct of any MLA or staffer, including their bosses.

Elected politicians will be required to dob each other in too.

The Integrity Commission will not be able to investigate ACT police, because the ACT cannot make laws about what is technically a Commonwealth body.

The ACT legislative assembly wants that federal law changed.

The Commission is expected to be operational by mid-next year.
