The Victorian Government is building a ‘GovHub’ to house 200 new public sector workers.

The $30 million regional employment hub in the Latrobe Valley has been designed by WMK Architecture, is planned to open in late 2020.

The Government says GovHub will be packed with modern office spaces, shared meeting rooms, a community hub, business incubator zones, an exhibition space and a café.

It will include workers from agencies including Earth Resources Regulation, Parks Victoria and Solar Victoria.

The building should achieve a minimum 4.5-star energy rating and be constructed using 75 per cent local materials and services sourced from Morwell and the Latrobe Valley.

It takes inspiration from the region’s long industrial history, with a roof resembling bucket wheel dredges.

Developer Castlerock Property will own and manage the building once completed.

It is part of the Labor government’s $266 million Latrobe Valley transition package, which includes a decentralisation push to get roles and services out of Melbourne.

The government is building three new facilities in total – the Latrobe GovHub, John Wardle Architects’ $100 million Ballarat Govhub and a $90 million Bendigo hub, yet to be designed.
