The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Environmental Protection Officer to join our team and contribute to the protection and conservation of Bunurong Country's natural and cultural heritage. In this role, you will work collaboratively with the EPA, Traditional Owners, and other stakeholders to ensure the inclusion of Traditional knowledge and cultural values in our regulatory work. You will also assist in the management of Bunurong Country, focusing on ecological restoration, threatened species recovery, wildlife management, weed control, and feral animal control.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the EPA and other stakeholders to support the inclusion of Traditional knowledge and cultural values in environmental protection initiatives.
  • Assist in the management of Bunurong Country, including ecological restoration, threatened species recovery, wildlife management, weed control, and feral animal control.
  • Stay updated on current and developed policies and procedures, including relevant EPA policies.
  • Support authorised officers with education and engagement activities related to the On Country works aligned with the Environmental Protection Act and EPA's regulatory priorities.
  • Participate in on-the-job learning and periodic reporting to the EPA as per reporting requirements.
  • Assist with compliance monitoring and inspections, planning and permissions approvals, investigations, and preventative projects and compliance programs.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Natural Resource Management or equivalent, and/or relevant field experience.
  • Agvet Chemical User Permit and Chainsaw Licence (Desirable).
  • 4x4 driving experience.
  • Demonstrated working experience and knowledge of Working on Country.
  • Experience in community engagement.

Key Competencies:

  • Full Victorian driver's licence.
  • Understanding/experience working with Traditional Owners.
  • Knowledge or desire to learn about Bunurong Cultural Values.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to travel for training and community of practice events as required.
  • Ability to work on Country and in an office as needed.
