What you'll be doing

The Legal Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and assistance in respect of all aspects of NSW Health Pathology’s strategy and operations, including advice on statutory interpretation and compliance, agreement preparation and negotiation and medicolegal claims.

  1. A degree in law from an Australian tertiary institution or a comparable overseas qualification, plus a current Australian jurisdiction practising certificate (or evidenced entitlement to hold such a practising certificate) with a minimum of 4 years’ post admission experience.
  2. Demonstrated experience working with minimal supervision in a government or health-related commercial legal practice or as part of an in-house legal team.
  3. Excellent legal skills and extensive experience in at least two of the following core areas of practice: contract law; commercial law; health law; administrative law; intellectual property; information technology; governance and/or risk management.
  4. Well-developed organisational skills including demonstrated ability to prioritise competing demands and work to tight deadlines.
  5. High level communication skills, with a well-developed ability to engage, collaborate, negotiate and influence, and maintain trusted, respectful relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  6. Forward thinking approach, including the ability to analyse and interpret information, deal with challenges creatively and develop solutions
