Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.

The Mobile Forensic Mental Health Service (MobileFMHS) is a multidisciplinary team that provides specialist mental health assessment and treatment services to prisoners

About the role:

The MobileFMHS Senior Social Worker provides consultation, discipline-specific assessment, intervention and transition/pre-release planning for clients with impaired mental health functioning at the Metropolitan Remand Centre. The Senior Social Worker is responsible for ongoing development and planning of social work services within a multi-disciplinary team. The role involves delivery of individual and group programs to promote clients' mental health recovery, coping and functioning in custody. The Senior Social Worker holds the Cultural Portfolio holder position to enhance the mental health care of clients who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, or clients from a culturally and linguistically diverse background. There is scope to provide consultation and assessment at other MobileFMHS locations.

Duties:

  • To provide Social Work-specific assessment and treatment
  • To deliver individual and group treatment with a mental health focus
  • To provide consultation to Corrections Victoria and other stakeholders to help support clients with impaired mental health functioning
  • To contribute towards further service development

Qualification, skills and experience:

  • Approved degree in Social Work, or other qualifications approved for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
  • Ability to deliver specialist social work service within a complex and dynamic prison environment
  • Experience and skills in providing counselling within a social work framework
