Forensicare is the statutory agency responsible for the provision of adult forensic mental health services across Victoria.
Forensicare is situated across five sites across Victoria with its largest site being Thomas Embling Hospital, located in Fairfield just 15 minutes north of the Melbourne CBD.
Thomas Embling Hospital is a 116 bed secure hospital providing acute care, rehabilitation and continuing care services.

About the role:

The role of the Lead Occupational Therapist (Thomas Embling Hospital) is to provide operational support and clinical leadership of occupational therapy services and associated programs at Thomas Embling Hospital, taking regards to the boundaries set by the profession and the organisation to achieve and maintain a high standard of client care that prioritizes the needs of the individual.

The position is responsible for promoting clinical efficiency and effectiveness within the hospital based occupational therapy team and in working alongside the Chief Occupational Therapist in overseeing the ongoing development and strategic planning of occupational therapy services across Forensicare.

Duties:

  • Maintain a clinical role on the Secure Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit.
  • Hold the service portfolio of liaison and organisation oversight of the Education and Health and Fitness Contracted Services.
  • Provide clinical supervision to Occupational Therapists.
  • Provide expert advice and consultation on complex clinical and other occupational therapy matters within the hospital based services.
  • Provide professional leadership and operational oversight for the hospital based occupational therapy team.
  • Contribute to special projects, committees and working parties both within Thomas Embling Hospital and across the broader VIFMH services.

Qualification, skills and experience: 

  • Current Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Qualifications in Occupational Therapy.
  • Extensive clinical knowledge and experience in Occupational Therapy.
  • Have demonstrated skills in the mental health and/or forensic field, knowledge and understanding of the needs of mentally ill people and of the issues of care delivery in forensic mental health.
