Permanent Full-Time

Remuneration based on experience , plus 9.5% superannuation.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Building Surveyor to join our Municipal Services business unit.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing the statutory functions of a Municipal Building Surveyor to ensure Council’s statutory obligations are fulfilled and provide a leadership role to the local building industry. The successful candidate will require strong leadership and communication skills as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

This role will require a tertiary qualification in a relevant field along with several years’ experience in the building and construction industry. This role will also require a membership to the Australian Institute of Building Surveyors and be a Registered Building Practitioner in the Category Class of Building Surveyor Unlimited in Victoria.

Wellington Shire Council currently has a Municipal Building Surveyor, however as part of Council’s succession planning this position would be required to work alongside the current incumbent and learn key knowledge, skills and abilities required for the role.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate how they meet the criteria below:

  • Relevant qualifications and registration as a Building Surveyor Unlimited and demonstrated experience in the building and construction industry.
  • Similar experience in a similar role within local government or a sound understanding of the role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Building Acts, Codes and regulations with the ability to read and understand building plans and specification.
  • Advanced communication, customer and negotiation skills and a commitment to customer service.
  • Highly developed management, organisational and self-management skills.
